Who can become a client of the Bank?

Any resident of the Republic of Latvia – physical and legal entity - can become a client of GE Money Bank.

 

How to receive a payment card?

GE Money Bank offers payment cards both to physical and legal entities.

If a physical entity wants to receive a payment card, the following documents are required:

- Valid passport;

- Complete Current account opening and service agreement indicating a type of chosen payment card.

 

In turn, a legal entity should submit:

- Statutes or an equal document;

- Registration certificate;

- Order or statement of persons with signatory power issued by the Enterprise Register of the Republic of Latvia (not older than 30 days);

- Participant Register;

- Passports of Client’s officials with signatory powers;

- Notice of Client’s actual beneficiary, Client’s questionnaire form;

- Passport of the person – actual beneficiary - indicated in the Client’s questionnaire form and the notice of Client’s actual beneficiary;

- Card user’s passport;

- Complete Current account opening and service agreement indicating the type of chosen payment card

 

What is a Debit Card?

A Debit Card is a plastic card, which is electronically linked to a current account in the Bank and allows operating with one’s available financial means on the account in a safe and convenient way 24 hours a day.

 

What is a Credit Card?

A Credit Card is a plastic card, which is electronically linked to a current account in the Bank and allows operating both with one’s own and Bank’s allocated financial means 24 hours a day in a convenient and safe way, but compared to a debit card provides additional possibilities.

 

What is a Smart Card?

A Smart Card is the same payment card, but with an improved security solution – a chip or microprocessor (on the left side of the payment card). Therefore, when paying for purchases or services in marketplaces, the fact of transaction is confirmed with the PIN code available only to the Client. Considering that not all marketplaces in the world can service smart cards, all payment cards issued by GE Money also include a magnetic layer, and in case of its use the fact of transaction is confirmed by Client’s signature.

 

Is it possible to receive additional cards?

Yes, it is possible to receive additional cards for all payment cards issued by Bank. In order to do this, the following documents should be submitted:

- Passports of the persons in whose name additional cards will be received;

- Complete Current account opening and service agreement indicating the type of chosen payment card.

 

The owner of the account takes responsibility for the additional cards and their liabilities.

 

What is the difference between a Debit Card and a Credit Card?

Compared to a Debit Card, a Credit Card provides greater and more flexible opportunities:

- Credit limit and credit line;

- Travel insurance;

- Purchase protection insurance;

Priority Pass member card;

- Greater prestige;

- More flexible and greater card functionality;

- Opportunity to perform transactions in off-line mode, namely, in case it is not possible to prove sufficiency of financial means when paying for purchases or services due to connection or other problems, a transaction is confirmed in any case.

In turn, using the Debit Card is relatively cheaper than using the Credit Card, but transactions should be performed in on-line mode; namely, authorisation of sufficiency of financial means on the account should be performed.

 

What is purchase protection insurance?

Purchase protection insurance provides additional protection for the purchases made only by Bank’s Purchase Credit Cards and VISA Platinum Credit Card in the whole world and on the Internet. In case of any problem with a purchase, present a cashier’s check of purchase and a POS check, and receive compensation. Which debit card to choose – Maestro or VISA card?

GE Money Bank offers both of these debit cards.

The main functions (refer to Debit Cards section) and tariffs (refer to Tariffs section) for these debit cards are the same, but payments made on the Internet (additional application is required) are more effective with VISA payment card – it can be used when booking plane tickets and/or hotel rooms.

The most important difference between these two cards is that they are not equally popular among the different countries. Before using the cards one should make sure whether the respective trader or ATM services these debit cards. It is indicated by the emblems of the respective cards in marketplaces and on ATMs.

Tariffs for the both international debit cards are equal.

 

Which credit card to choose – Master Card or VISA Card?

GE Money Bank issues both of these credit cards issued by international payment card organizations. Credit card products are designed in such a way as to fulfill all Bank’s clients’ desires and needs. One should carefully consider the choice of credit card (what are Client’s needs, Client’s opportunities, etc.), and, after having consulted Bank’s employees, choose the most appropriate credit card.

Functions of the both credit cards are the same (refer to Credit Cards section), but the tariffs (refer to Tariffs section) and additional possibilities offered (refer to Additional possibilities section) are different.

In the international field – also in the credit cards’ case, the same as in the debit cards’ case, the only difference is the popularity among different countries. Before using the cards, Bank advises to make sure whether the emblems of these cards are indicated in the respective marketplace. If any of these credit cards is not accepted in a marketplace, there is always a possibility to draw money from any ATM in the world.

 

Is it possible to pay for purchases and services by payment card abroad?

Yes, all payment cards issued by Bank are international, and their use abroad is not restricted. When making purchases in another currency, conversion into the respective country’s currency is performed automatically.

 

Is it possible to draw cash in LVL by a payment card in USD or EUR?

Yes, although there is USD or EUR currency on the account, an ATM will issue cash in lats, performing the conversion automatically.

 

Is it possible to pay for purchases on the Internet?

Yes, one can pay for purchases on the Internet by the cards issued by Bank, but for safety, Client should fill in a separate application for the activation of the card for making payments on the Internet.

 

How can one check the balance of one’s payment card?

Client can choose the most convenient and appropriate Bank’s service to always know the amount of cash available:

- Bank statement;

- Telephone 1878;

- Info line 67024777;

- Internet bank – geonline.lv;

- SMS bank;

- Any subsidiary or Client Service Centre of the Bank.

 

Is it possible to change the PIN code?

GE Money Bank does not offer its clients a possibility to change the PIN code, however, if for any reason the PIN code has been forgotten, one can change the card, and receive a new card with a new PIN code. One should pay commission charges in accordance with Bank’s price list.

 

What should one do in case the period of validity of one’s card has expired?

Bank issues debit cards valid for three-year period and credit cards valid for two-year period. One should consider that the end of the validity period is the last calendar day of the respective month of the indicated year, e.g. 08/08 means that the validity period of the payment card is 31st August 2008 (including).

In accordance with the terms of the Current account opening and service agreement, if:

- there has been at least one transaction (ATM or purchase transaction) on the payment card account in the course of the previous year;

- no application for non-renewal or cancellation of the card has been received;

- Client has regularly fulfilled his/her obligations to the Bank;

- payment card has not been blocked,

the Bank undertakes to draw up a payment card with a new validity period (card number remains the same). The extended payment card is available in the Bank’s subsidiary indicated in the Agreement or Client Service Centre starting the 20th of the month before the end of the validity period of a card. Bank stores the payment card for 3 months after the extension of validity period.

 

What should one do if a payment card is lost or stolen?

In case a payment card is lost or stolen, one should immediately block it, informing about this by calling 1878 or 67092544 (on workdays from 18.00 to 9.00, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays). After a card is blocked, within 7 days’ time, one should submit a written application for drawing up (replacing) a new payment card to the Bank. A payment card with a new number, validity period and PIN code will be issued. Bank advises to pay special attention to changes in the card account and verify that each transaction is made deliberately. Otherwise, one should immediately inform the Bank in written form.

 

What should one do if the lost payment card is found?

The found payment card is not valid, because it is replaced by a new payment card for security, therefore the PIN code will also change. One should pay commission charges in accordance with Bank’s price list.

 

What should one do if one’s payment card is damaged?

If a card is damaged, one should refer to the nearest subsidiary of Bank or Client Service Centre, and fill in an application for the replacement of card.

The new (replaced) payment card will have a new validity period, a new card number, and a new PIN code.

 

Is it possible to regain the payment card that has been retained by an ATM?

No, the card that has been retained by an ATM is not returned. In such case one should refer to the nearest subsidiary of Bank or Client Service Centre and fill in an application for the replacement of card.

 

Why is it not possible to perform transactions with a payment card?

To avoid such situations, Bank advises to handle a payment card carefully:

- to check and add to the available money assets on the account regularly;

- to verify the validity period of the card, and take out an extended payment card in time;

- to keep the card in places where no objects creating electromagnetic radiation (e.g. mobile phone, TV, computer) are present;

- to comply with the terms of the Current account opening and service agreement, otherwise Bank has the right to block the payment card;

Other reasons:

- technical problems – most often communication problems;

- the respective payment card is not serviced in the respective marketplace.

In such cases, it is always possible to pay in cash.

 

Is it safe to pay by payment card on the Internet?

One of the Bank’s main tasks is to provide safe products that correspond to Client’s desires and possibilities. Therefore, for safety, the possibility to pay by payment card on the Internet is granted after Client’s written application is received. In addition, one should bear in mind the following rules:

- one should comply with the payment card regulations;

- one should make purchases at the known and reliable internet traders who use the internet purchase protection system “Verified by VISA” or “MasterCard SecureCode”, which ensures the protection of Client’s financial information (an internet site should start with https://, and there should be a key symbol under it);

- for making payments on the Internet one should use only one’s payment card number (16 digits), validity period, if necessary – card user’s name and surname, and the CVC code (three-digit number, which is printed on the back of the card);

- for making payments on the Internet, the PIN code and other passwords connected with the payment card, its account and access to remote information systems (Internet Bank, SMS bank, etc.) is not required – this information should not be made known to unauthorized persons;

- one should keep all types of transaction documents;

- one should regularly check transactions performed by one’s payment card (at least once a month, by checking the bank statement);

- one should inform the Bank (by calling 1878 or referring to any subsidiary of Bank or Client Service Centre) about suspicious transactions performed by the payment card in due time (at the most, within 30 calendar days);

- one should not use e-mail to send information connected with the payment card and its account;

- one should not reply to e-mail letters that contain a request for identification data (even as if a letter is received from the Bank);

- before making purchases on the Internet, one should verify whether the computer used is protected by antivirus software.

How can one dispute the payment card transactions that one has not performed?

In such cases one should immediately inform the Bank – call 1878 or block the card. One should refer to the nearest subsidiary of Bank or Client Service Centre, fill in a claim for the relevant transactions, and an application for the replacement of card. The Bank will:

- block the payment card and issue a new card;

- review the claim and initiate a money retrieval procedure;

- provide additional information in the process.

 

Can a permanent Bank’s client receive better payment card terms, and how to do it?

Bank does provide such an opportunity, and it is considered for each client individually.

 

How can one close the card and its account?

One should fulfill obligations to the Bank, write an application for the closure of the account and the relevant payment card, and hand over the card to the Bank. Credit card is closed 40 days after the receipt of application in accordance with the Payment card regulations.
